A single bloodshot eyeball with a violet iris, staring straight out of the fabric. Seven colors, one evening, and a finished piece at the end of it.

This one is free, and it uses the same chart layout, the same legend and the same file set as every paid pattern in the shop. If you have not stitched one of our charts before, start here and see how it reads before you spend anything.

  • Difficulty: Beginner
  • Chart size: 110 x 110 stitches
  • Finished size on 14-count Aida: approximately 7.9 x 7.9 in (20 x 20 cm)
  • Recommended fabric cut: approximately 13.9 x 13.9 in, including a 3 in finishing allowance
  • Palette: 7 DMC colors
  • Stitched area: 5,592 full cross stitches
  • Coverage: 46% coverage with a blank fabric background
  • Backstitch: None
  • Strands: 2 strands throughout on 14-count Aida

DMC 762 Pearl Gray Very Light and DMC 415 Pearl Gray build the white of the eye, DMC 209 Lavender Dark and DMC 550 Violet Very Dark make the iris, and DMC 310 Black drops the pupil in.

Two reds carry the veins. Every color is listed with its number, name, symbol, stitch count, how many skeins to buy and how many strands to use, both in the PDF legend and in the CSV thread list.

  • US Letter printable PDF with the DMC legend and the full chart
  • A4 printable PDF of the same chart
  • One-page mobile chart sized for a tablet or phone, no printer needed
  • Pattern Keeper edition for chart-tracking apps
  • DMC thread list as a CSV, with stitch counts, skein estimates and strand counts
  • Finished-look preview image of the stitched design
  • Readme with print settings and stitching notes

Print at 100% or Actual Size rather than Fit to Page. Fold the fabric in half both ways to find the center and start there.

Stitch the pupil and iris first, then the white, then the veins last. The veins are the only fiddly part and they sit on top of everything else, so leaving them until the end keeps the shape clean.
