An eyeball with purple bat wings, two small horns and a few stitched-up scars, caught mid-flight. It is the silliest thing in this collection and the one most likely to make somebody laugh when they spot it on a wall.

The shape is wide rather than tall, which makes it the odd one out here: 180 stitches across against the usual 110. That width suits a shelf, a lintel or a rectangular frame better than a round hoop.

This pattern is also in the Halloween bundle: seven charts for less than the price of four.

  • Difficulty: Intermediate
  • Chart size: 180 x 106 stitches
  • Finished size on 14-count Aida: approximately 12.9 x 7.6 in (33 x 19 cm)
  • Recommended fabric cut: approximately 18.9 x 13.6 in, including a 3 in finishing allowance
  • Palette: 26 DMC colors
  • Stitched area: 6,803 full cross stitches
  • Coverage: 36% coverage with a blank fabric background
  • Backstitch: None
  • Strands: 2 strands throughout on 14-count Aida

DMC B5200 Snow White fills the eyeball and accounts for more of the piece than anything else. DMC 208 Lavender Very Dark builds both wings and the horns, DMC 906 Parrot Green Medium makes the iris, and DMC 310 Black drops in the pupil and the outline.

The rest are small runs shading the wing membranes and the scars. Every color is listed with its number, name, symbol, stitch count, how many skeins to buy and how many strands to use, both in the PDF legend and in the CSV thread list.

  • US Letter printable PDF with the DMC legend and the full chart
  • A4 printable PDF of the same chart
  • One-page mobile chart sized for a tablet or phone, no printer needed
  • Pattern Keeper edition for chart-tracking apps
  • DMC thread list as a CSV, with stitch counts, skein estimates and strand counts
  • Finished-look preview image of the stitched design
  • Readme with print settings and stitching notes

Print at 100% or Actual Size rather than Fit to Page, and check your fabric cut against the width before the first stitch. At nearly thirteen inches across this is the widest chart in the collection, and a cut sized for the usual square design will not take it.

Stitch the black outline first. It holds the eyeball, the wings and the horns in one shape, and every color after it is simply filling in an area that already has an edge.
